about

Gawd I hate writing these descriptions, I really do...

Well, here it is... eleven tracks of painfully perky synth-laden goodness, chock full of break-neck tempos, obnoxiously cheesy keyboard patches, gratuitous guitar noodling and key changes where no sane person would ever dream of putting a key change.

Written and recorded between September 2020 and July 2021. I'm not sure why it took so long to write a relatively short album, but I guess two house moves and an ongoing pandemic kind of disrupt things a little bit. This was also hurt by the fact the song 'Perfect Fit' came fairly early in the writing process and was head and shoulders above everything else in terms of quality. Trying and failing to make the rest of the album live up to the high bar it set was disheartening.

This one's a little more guitar driven and a bit more compositionally simple than my usual stuff. It's kind of ironic that it ended up being called 'Experimentality' given how little experimentation actually went on; I found a formula and ran with it.

And so by the time I was done I had this album that in my mind was just 'Perfect Fit' plus a bunch of filler tracks, and I just kind of let it sit and fester on my hard drive, not bothering to release it or promote it or even do much of anything with it. Until a few weeks ago when I gave it a listen just for the hell of it and found that it wasn't as bad as I'd remembered. Yeah, not quite as good as The Bare Maximum or anything, but not bad. Certainly not deserving of never seeing the light of day. So it's on here now.

Yeah, I'm setting a price for it this time. I don't like charging for my music, because it's not like it costs anything to make, but I have a hunch Bandcamp might treat it a little differently if there's a touch of wonga involved - the Discover algorithm or whatever might just add a little bit of weight to it. If it doesn't make a difference I'll set it back to name your price by the end of the month.
(Actually, if you go to the hassle of downloading each track individually then that might make it free too - sneaky life hack there, courtesy of yours truly.)

Song names got a touch lazier than usual this time around, too. Half of them are just the working titles, the file names of the FL Studio project files that they were born out of.
Fun fact about 'Sync Hard': the Korg Triton hard sync lead bits ended up being taken out before the song was complete since they just didn't fit. So the name makes even less sense.

It's lucky the music's good, because I phoned it in with literally every other aspect of the album - the titles, the art, all that. Incomprehensible acronym names are usually the very last resort when naming a song, and this one's got three of 'em! And now I'm left with the joyous task of trying to self-promote an album that looks like pure arse that could have been thrown together in an afternoon. Lovely.
The album art is literally a photo thrown through a default paint.net effect filter.
